About The Tea Factory

The Tea Factory is a four star theme hotel located on a 25-acre lush green tea estate 6,800 fee above sea level, which maintains the authentic atmosphere of living in a tea factory. In the mountain range, which gave the world Pure Ceylon Tea, the hotel began as a factory built in the days of the British Raj. It has been converted while preserving much of the original style and machinery; reminiscent of the past yet perfectly blending in the innovations of the present.

A stay at the Tea Factory is an experience like none other. Step into its reception, and you are where the factory's leaf drying process was carried out. The atrium is latticed with steel. On its ceiling two giant brass-capped wooden fans remind you that the bedrooms are located on floors that used to be the withering lofts.

The tea packing room is now the hotel's popular Hethersett bar. Where tea was sifted and graded is the hotel's fine Kenmare restaurant. Its modern kitchen used to be the engine room.

The withering lofts have been transformed into 57 bedrooms of cosy, carpeted comfort. Wood is a key element of the interior decor, with doors, shelves and cupboards (plenty of them) left in their natural colours. The windows remain as they were in their original square wooden frames providing a glorious view. Each bathroom is equipped with a bathtub and shower. Bedrooms are heated and have built-in dressing tables with wrap around mirrors.

The view from the rooms at the front of the hotel is a wonderful panorama of tea; at its rear, a peaceful pastoral scene of hamlets, hills and forest, and more tea greets you.

Our staff speak English, Sinhalese and Tamil.
