The moment we stepped off the speedboat onto Adaaran Select Hudhuran Fushi, it felt like we’d been dropped into a postcard. The breeze, swaying palms and those famous Maldivian blues stretching out in every direction, it was just a scene straight from the movies and watching my kids dart barefoot across the soft sand, I knew this trip would be something special for all of us.
What surprised me most about the island resort is how naturally it wraps itself around the needs of families. We’re staying in a spacious beach villa and each morning the kids tumble out onto the sand just seconds from the shore. The lagoon here is shallow and calm, perfect for little feet and first-time paddlers. We’ve spent hours together kayaking, paddleboarding and even trying out snorkeling, where the kids shouted in excitement through their masks spotting bright reef fish swimming right beneath us.
But the real magic has been Koamas Kids Club. It’s been our secret ingredient for a holiday that actually feels like a break. The warm and energetic team welcomed our children from the first minute, and every day has brought something new: sand art, Maldivian storytime, nature walks and face painting. They even hosted a movie session and I haven’t stopped hearing about the treasure hunt they’ve planned for tomorrow. For the first time in ages, my partner and I found ourselves reading by the pool, together, without once being interrupted. Just awesome.
Evenings are for reconnecting. Whether it’s beachside BBQ nights, colourful buffet spreads at Banyan or a quiet dinner at the Indian Pavilion while the kids munch on their favourite pizzas from Café Mass, there’s no shortage of choice. Each restaurant feels like its own experience, and there’s always something new to try. One night, our eldest was proudly devouring sashimi, the next night it was pasta with three helpings of ice cream. The resort also surprised us with a sunset Shark View Dinner, and let’s just say we’ll be talking about the lobster and that view for years to come.
And somehow, between all the food and fun, Adaaran Select Hudhuran Fushi has managed to keep the spirit of the island alive. There’s a focus on sustainability here, reusable water bottles, thoughtful landscaping and educational activities for kids around marine life and local traditions. It feels good knowing that our holiday is also helping this place stay beautiful for the future.
Even now, after a day of snorkeling, smoothie sipping, kids’ crafts and sunset strolls, I still feel like we’ve only scratched the surface. There’s something unhurried and welcoming about this island that’s hard to describe. It’s not just a resort, it’s a rhythm you fall into. A way of spending time that feels both exciting and peaceful.
If you’re dreaming of a winter escape that everyone in the family will genuinely enjoy, pack your bags. We’re already planning our return and this time, we’re bringing friends!
