Sinharaja is one of Sri Lanka’s most important centres of biodiversity, supporting an exceptional concentration of plant and animal life across its ridges, valleys, streams and dense forest layers whilst interconnected systems, habitats and species that make Sinharaja a globally significant rainforest ecosystem. Its’ complex habitats provide refuge for numerous threatened and endangered species, while also supporting remarkable patterns of bird flocking and species interaction. The forest’s high level of endemism and ecological importance contributed to its recognition as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site.
